What I’ve been up to

It’s clear that I’m never going to get around to writing about all of the things I’ve been up to recently, so here is a bullet-point list in no particular order:

  • Went to see The Dark Knight. I didn’t like it as much as the rest of the world did, but neither did I dislike it. Rand thought Heath Ledger’s Joker voice was a little too Al Franken, and Christian Bale’s Batman voice drove me, um…batty. I thought the ending monologue was kind of stupid.
  • Visited with the Huths in Houghton, which was lovely. You can see my most recent flickr photos, which are of their yard/garden, and their adorable daughter.
  • Attended the wedding of Rand’s cousin.
  • Went to a family anniversary party out near Syracuse.
  • Watched some movies (and other fun stuff) with the nifty new Roku, from Netflix.
  • Survived a whole week of school, including schedule changes out the wazoo, broken copiers, and other mishaps.
  • Added a bunch of books to my “to-read” pile, but made little progress.
  • Also saw Tropic Thunder–hardly brilliant, but quite amusing.

There’s probably more, but that’s all I’ve got for now…

Lazy, rainy Sunday

Rand and I are sitting here watching women’s gymnastics. I’m having a hard time understanding this new scoring system…although I think they just explained it in a way that makes sense. Sort of.  😉

We saw our parents yesterday…they both came to Buffalo to visit, and we went out for lunch. We had a very nice day. My parents brought a CD with wedding photos, and I started working on uploading them to flickr. I still have *lots* more.

We also got a couple of CDs in the mail from Debbie, and I haven’t even begun to look at them yet. 🙂

Last night, Rand and I went to see Pineapple Express. It was funny. Extremely violent, but funny. 😉

Ok, enough for me…G’night!

Long weekend update

I had off Friday AND Monday, but I think I would be more rested if I had been at work! Here’s how my weekend went:

Friday

Planned to go to yoga Friday morning. Did not go. Tried to go get a mani/pedi and discovered that the salon I usually go to has closed. (there was a “for rent” sign in the window and everything…) Ran some errands. Sat at the chiropractor’s office for WAY too long. Shopped for some things we needed for the new place. Went to follow-up contact appointment and bought two boxes of contacts. Waited for Rand to get home. Left for St. Marys.

Trip to St. Marys was incredibly annoying…traffic on 219 into Springville backed up.

Arrived in St. Marys just in time for 7 pm showing of The Music Man at the high school, where my cousin Scott had the lead. He was fantastic (as was the rest of the production). Stayed up too late chatting and snacking with family.

Saturday

Woke up. Helped mom make blueberry muffins. Got dressed and ready for second bridal shower (more details on this to come). Had a lovely time at bridal shower, and got lots of excellent goodies. Visited grandparents. Got ready to drive back to Buffalo. Stopped at Blasedell Pizza in Springville on the way back.

Watched some TV (The Cable Guy, which I had never seen, had shown on cable) and moved some more stuff from the apartment.

Sunday

Slept in. Visited with my brother and SIL, who were on their way to Niagara Falls/Niagara on the Lake to celebrate their anniversary. They got to see the new place, and we went out for lunch at Anderson’s.

Lots more moving/unpacking, interspersed with bits of TV and a dinner break.

Monday

Slept in again. Went to Wegmans to pick up some cleaning supplies. Forgot oven cleaner, which was the main reason why I went. Went back to Wegmans. Headed over to apartment to finish packing/begin cleaning.

Toyed with the idea of paying someone to clean. Decided to suck it up and clean ourselves.

Emptied and cleaned most of the apartment (still left: kitchen floor, living room). Took lunch and dinner breaks. Rand watched 300 (I watched on and off, while hunting around the house looking for things I am missing…), and we headed back over to the apartment to go through the storage area in the basement. Moved or threw away most of that stuff.

Bed.

We should easily finish cleaning and moving today. There’s not much left to do. But man, do I wish I had another day or two to unwind!

Whew. I should get back to work. Look for some photos and a wedding blog update soon! (46 days until the wedding–ACK!)

Busy weekend

Here’s a quick recap:

Friday, I had a half-day at school. Rand left work early, and we dealt with some business (like applying for our marriage license, changing our address w/the bank, etc.), had lunch at the Pancake House, and then we took several carloads of stuff to our new place.

We ate leftover pizza for dinner, then collapsed in a heap and watched Dan in Real Life. It was a cute movie. Rand and I both thought there was a teeny bit too much Michael in Steve Carrell’s performance, and wished some areas of the script had been more fleshed out.

Saturday was an early day. Rand had to attend graduation, and I got up and started running around like crazy. I needed to go to Wegman’s, let the painters in to the new place, take care of a bunch of other little tasks, and get ready for our shower.

Rand’s parents and my parents hadn’t met until Saturday, so we had them both come in a little bit early and met up at Starbucks for drinks and conversation. Everything went swimmingly.

Also, the shower itself was lovely. I will post an update over at the wedding blog soon.

After the shower, we brought our parents both over to see the new place. My mom and dad helped us pick up my $30 desk and bring it over (I forgot to take a photo. Will do that later), and we grabbed dinner at the Brew Pub before they headed home.

Sunday, we ran around doing some shopping…Target and groceries. The cold and rain made me *very* cranky. Then laundry and a bit of cleaning up/packing.

And that is all…

How’s your Monday going? I’m kind of wishing mine was over!

Bad daughter

As you know, I’ve been pretty preoccupied this week with grading and getting ready for my shower today and moving and…well, you know.

My dad’s birthday was on Thursday.

I didn’t forget that it was my dad’s birthday entirely…I thought about it earlier in the week, when I called my mom to ask what I should get him. And I thought about having something to give him when I see him today.

But what I did forget to do was call my dad on his birthday. :-/

Sorry, dad. Happy belated birthday, eh?

Happy Mother’s Day

Yes, it’s a day late, but I just read this lovely post from Michelle Sagara West, and I needed to share it.

We saw Rand’s mom yesterday…I sent my mom flowers and talked to her on the phone. I’m going to be seeing my parents this weekend, and Rand and I will be traveling to St. Marys next weekend.

Life continues to be crazy. It’ll get less crazy soon. I think. 😉

Quick update

I’ve been a busy (and productive!) girl this weekend. In addition to weddingstuff, I went to a party Friday night, sent the Toasted Cheese newsletter, finished watching season 3 of MASH, had lunch with Rand’s parents, sold a Mother’s Day calligraphy piece on etsy (woohoo!) and prepared it for mailing (I, um, had to make it too, as I didn’t actually have any in stock. I gave them all away last year).

I also got a haircut (but not really, because my stylist didn’t think I needed a cut. He shaped up the back a bit, as it was looking bushy, and didn’t charge me), bought some new shoes.

Other shopping adventures included picking up an external hard drive (I’m running low on drive space), buying a superclearance desk at Office Max for $30, which will get picked up when my parents come to visit in two weeks. (It’s the floor model, so it’s all put together…)

Oh, and laundry. Always laundry.

I’ve been lax with computer-related stuff this weekend, so if you’ve emailed me, played Scrabble with me on Facebook, twittered at me, or anything else, I will get around to it. Soon.

Have a great week!

Clinton visits St. Marys

No, not Hillary.

Bill.

I think my mom was going to go. I will update later. 😉

Happy Easter!

Hope you all have a lovely day. I’m off for PA to visit with the fam.

Busy

I h ave a million things to blog…okay, a million is probably an exaggeration, but still.

I took a bunch of pictures over the weekend that I have yet to upload. Soon.

Visiting with the family was good. It was my grandpa’s birthday, and so we had a little family get-together. My aunt and cousin who live in Maryland were there, so it was great to see them.

Of course, I left some things behind…a hairbrush, and a book that I was reading. Feh.

Also slightly annoying…I had been hoping my wedding dress would arrive before the weekend so that I could go and try it on. Alas, the bridal shop called me *yesterday* to tell me that my dress had come in. (You can read about my ongoing shoe quest over at my wedding blog, should you care about that sort of thing…) Rand and I have been plugging away at the wedding details, which I will write about in more detail over there.

We stayed up to watch the Oscars Sunday night, and I wasn’t as bored as I thought I would be. I may go into more detail, but here are the highlights (as far as I’m concerned):

  • The musical numbers. Loved all of them. I haven’t seen any of the movies that had songs nominated (Enchanted, August Rush, Once), but I want to see them all!
  • Jon Stewart bringing the woman who won for Once back onstage to give her acceptance speech since she was so rudely played off. Awesome.
  • Diablo Cody! Whoo! She made me cry.
  • Jennifer Garner being the picture of grace and style. She looked so adorably excited when Diablo Cody won.
  • The cute French girl winning best actress.
  • Ratatouille winning best animated feature.

Hmm…there’s probably more, but I’ve already forgotten. Sadly, I forgot all about joining Eden’s Oscar group and making picks this year. I tried to log in and do it at 8 on Sunday, but I was denied. Denied! Ah well.

Worked yesterday, and am working today. Work is good, but I’m so tired. Want sleep.

And now, I must prepare for a room full of 6th graders. Later!
