VHS tapes…what to do?

So, as we prepare for our big move (will be happening sometime this month…), we’re clearing out clutter and giving away/selling/throwing away lots of stuff.

I currently have a bag full of movies on VHS. Many of them are Disney movies. Some of them are unopened. I know I can’t sell them, but is there anyplace that would take them before I just throw them in the garbage? Lemme know if you know of anything.

  1. Have you checked with area hospitals, orphanages, crisis nurseries, or at-risk centers?
There are many charitable organizations who are still using “old” technology because of their small budgets that may jump at the chance to get some new selections for people to view.

    Just a thought.

  2. Those are all great ideas.

Also we sold all the ones we had out at our yard sale last year. People do want them, maybe grandparents or day cares or whatever.

  3. You can absolutely sell them! You won’t get top dollar for them, but they’re not obsolete.

But I agree with Chris and think it would be nice for you to donate them.

  4. I see someone’s already suggested a library donation and other places. Older day care centers too, especially ones that are based in or affiliated with churches; these tend to be a bit behind on getting new equipment as well.

  5. I know I shouldn’t come in with selfishness, but I’d be interested in the original Bambi or Cinderella if you have them. 🙂

Otherwise I do agree about donating. With all you have on tap right now eBull and such is too much work (tho Samis right, they’re not obsolete). Your local library branch perhaps? And I really liked the nursing home idea.

  6. Thanks for the suggestions, everyone. 🙂

Jenn–I don’t have those two in the bunch that I have with me, but I’m nearly sure I have them at my parents’ house. I’ll check, and if I have them, they’re all yours! I know mom’s been wanting to clear out the junk that I left there. 😉

  7. Day camps, schools (esp. those w/after-school care), etc., might also be interested. If nothing else, list them in the Free section on craigslist.

  8. Thanks, Christine. Rand heard about the sale, and that’s probably what we’re going to do with anything that’s left. 🙂

  9. That’s cool! 🙂 I’m thinking of doing the same thing as well. I have a bunch I’ve been trying to sell on ebay. I think I’m making them rich with the listing and relisting fees.
