Blogging Lost

I have found a new favorite blog.

Once a week, author J. Wood writes about Lost at Powell’s Books.

His posts are intelligent, well thought-out and reasoned, and are quickly becoming the only Lost source on the internet I want to read at all. Rather than recapping the episode, Wood deconstructs each episode, exploring the references and connections that have been made. And even the comments are intelligent! Most recaps/message boards just degenerate into tiresome “bitterness fiestas” that just make me want to beat my head against the wall until the hurting stops.

Wood’s posts are making me want to check out his book, Living Lost. Anyone know anything about it?

I need a hero

Oh, Heroes is such a fantastic show.

This week’s episode left me speechless…and incredulous that the next new episode won’t air until APRIL 24. Noooooooooooooo!

It was cliffhanger piled on top of cliffhanger on top of cliffhanger. “Everything is bad,” I moaned at the end of the episode.

(spoilers ahead)

Catching up

Sometimes I feel like I’ll never be caught up. There’s always so much to do, and so little time to do it…

I’ve got papers to grade from all of my classes. That’s a lot of papers. 😛

I’m way behind on the TV watching this week. I did manage to watch both Lost and Veronica Mars last night, but there’s still Heroes, Studio 60, The Office and Scrubs to watch. Okay, I guess that’s not so bad…

A day of subbing in a classroom with a student teacher got me some time to read (when I should have been grading papers. Oops.). I also read the first issue of the Gunslinger comic. It was great, but I’m thinking of waiting until it’s collected to read the rest. It’s a little on the expensive side for a comic. At any rate, the art is fantastic, and writer Peter David did a wonderful job of capturing the voice.

Valentine’s Day was lovely. Rand and I went low-key and had a nice dinner at Taste of India (by far one of my most favorite restaurants around). This was a good choice because it was not at all busy. I liked that. It certainly beat being sick, like last year!

This is hard…

Random Thoughts 101 posted a poll. What are your top 5 TV shows of all time.

Of all time? Yikes. Okay, here goes…

1. The West Wing

2. Alias

3. Lost

4. Scrubs

5. Arrested Development

My “runners up”:

Sports Night
Six Feet Under
Cheers
Family Ties
Buffy/Angel
Friends
Quantum Leap

I absolutely adored Wonderfalls, but it wasn’t on long enough to make the list. I could go on, but I won’t. 😉

I have to agree with Steve, who commented on the original post. I don’t get Family Guy. (and believe me, I love me some Beavis and Butthead, and South Park) And I’ve shared my thoughts on Seinfeld in the past. Except for a few brief experiences, I’ve pretty much avoided reality TV. Give me good writing, and I’m happy.

Oh, vomit…

Quite possibly the worst book I’ve never quite really read has an HBO deal in the works?

Details here.

By way of explanation…Jen was reading this book while we were on a road trip together. She would read things aloud to me in the car which caused me to scream, “Oh my GOD. You’re kidding.”

Awful. Dreadful.

There’s a lesson to be learned here, though…just behave really, really badly, write about it publicly, cause a scandal, get fired, and hey! You too can have a book deal! And after your craptastic book gets published, HBO will make it into a series!

Ugh.

Squee!

I just watched The West Wing, which I hadn’t watched since the live debate episode.

I actually thought it was very well done…this may not be Sorkin’s show anymore, but it has become compelling television again.

I don’t think I knew that Bruno was back, though working for the Vinick campaign.

The whole time, I kept thinking about how impossible it would be for a new or casual viewer to keep up. This show had a large cast before, and it’s at least doubled with the campaigns. Yikes.

Anyway, the thing that made me squeal like the little fangirl I am was the sight of Sam Seaborn in the previews!!! I’d read that he was coming back for the end, but seeing him just made my little heart smile.

Also coming back are Danny, Amy, Joey Lucas, and Ainsley Hayes.

But Sam! Oh, happy dance…

‘Course, all this joy is dampened with the knowledge that Leo’s funeral is also coming up…
🙁

Must-see TV

Well, this is certainly going on my must-see list:

Clerical Errors: a new documentary questions the Catholic Church’s views on celibacy

The basic contention of Celibacy, a new documentary by the Emmy-winning director Antony Thomas (tonight at 10 p.m. ET on HBO), is that sexuality is the Galileo of today’s Roman Catholic Church.

I’ll have to get the parents to tape it for me…

Thanks to Stephanie, for bringing it to my attention!
