It’s not you, it’s me

So, how do you break up with your hairstylist?

I started seeing this guy in Orchard Park on the recommendation of a former coworker, and he’s great. I trust him, and I like what he does with my hair. On the other hand:

1. The salon is in Orchard Park. It seems like a waste of time, money and natural resources to keep driving to Orchard Park to get my hair done.

2. His schedule is insane. It took me nearly two months from the time I originally called to get an appointment. Once in, they make you schedule two appointments out, and if you have to cancel…well, good luck getting another one.

3. Did I mention the drive to Orchard Park?

So, I’ve cancelled an appointment I’d made for this coming Tuesday evening. I’m not in dire need of a haircut, but I am looking for a new place…one much closer to home. And back to my original question…what do you do? Do you just stop going and never be heard from again? Or do you say something? Hm…I just don’t know.

Anyway, that’s the big thing on my mind today. Aren’t you glad I posted? 😉

Seen in the photo–a calligraphy quill (that I have yet to take out of the package), a hazelnut candle, whole nutmeg, chocolate gingerbread cookies, and a spice grater (for the nutmeg, of course!). Not seen in the photo is a very nice jar that the cookies came in. The cookie recipe is in the post I linked to above.

I love participating in this event, and I want to thank my dear friend Stephanie for doing such a great job of coordinating it!

You can read about the package I sent to Natalie here. (I owe her some recipes, which I’ve promised to post here…soon, I swear!)

It’s the small things

I managed to upload some photos to flickr today, with titles and descriptions even. Whoo!

Here’s a little sample…all photos of things I’ve baked recently:

Tidbits

Well, my general blogging malaise is still with me, but I’m poking in to share a few brief things.

Don’t forget to stop by this post and let me know who you are!

I’ve tried to deal with the sluggish loading problem by removing some things from my sidebar. It seems to have helped a bit. If I ever get the energy, I might try a new theme and clean things up even more. Or, I might just move the whole thing over to wordpress so I don’t have to deal with all of the pain-in-the-butt issues that come withh hosting my own blog. Meh, I don’t know.

I’ve been baking a lot lately. It seems to be my current way of dealing with stress/creative outlet. I’ve taken a bunch of pictures, which I will one day upload. I’ll post recipes, too. My most recent successes have been breads. I made a pumpkin bread last week that was yummy, but for the fact that it got a teeny bit overcooked around the edges. And yesterday, I made a (white) batter bread that is also pretty tasty.

I’m a little bummed out about this whole Channel 4/Time Warner thing because of How I Met Your Mother. Thank goodness for the Internet, eh? I’m not likely to hop ship to a satellite service, because our cable comes with our condo association membership. Maybe this whole thing will be settled soon. Until then, iTunes will be my best friend.

I have watched none of Heroes (we watched 10 minutes into the premiere and got a little bored) or Chuck. Rand and I did watch Dirty Sexy Money last week, which we both continue to love.

I’ve now read most of A Raisin in the Sun, but have not yet started Of Mice and Men. I’d better get on that, as my class will be starting it later this week. (has anyone seen the recent version of A Raisin in the Sun w/Sean Combs aka Puffy or Puff Daddy or Diddy, or whatever name he’s using these days? I haven’t. Just curious.)

Okay, I need to step away from the computer now. Hope everyone’s having a happy Monday!

Sooooooo busy…

I have to read both A Raisin in the Sun and Of Mice and Men within the next week.

We have open house tonight.

Interim grades have to be in tomorrow, and I still have a bunch of essays to grade.

I wrote six discipline referrals today.

Thankfully, I’m giving a test in two of my classes tomorrow…that should be a good opportunity for me to get some things accomplished.

In other news…I received an issue of The Martha (TM: Eden) in my mailbox yesterday, courtesy of Jen! 😉

I’ve been told to keep watching my mailbox, so who knows what the mailman will bring me next? Stay tuned, and thanks, Jen!

A new Halloween costume for me?

edna-incredibles.jpg by you.

So last week, one of my students says, “Hey, I just figured out who you look like! That lady from The Incredibles!”

Um…I’m pretty sure he didn’t mean it as a compliment. 😉

Still trying to keep caught up, never mind, y’know, actually getting ahead…

I’m pretty sure I had some other things to say, but they’re all escaping me at the moment. One of these days, my brain will function normally again. I’ll keep you posted.

What I’ve been up to

It’s clear that I’m never going to get around to writing about all of the things I’ve been up to recently, so here is a bullet-point list in no particular order:

  • Went to see The Dark Knight. I didn’t like it as much as the rest of the world did, but neither did I dislike it. Rand thought Heath Ledger’s Joker voice was a little too Al Franken, and Christian Bale’s Batman voice drove me, um…batty. I thought the ending monologue was kind of stupid.
  • Visited with the Huths in Houghton, which was lovely. You can see my most recent flickr photos, which are of their yard/garden, and their adorable daughter.
  • Attended the wedding of Rand’s cousin.
  • Went to a family anniversary party out near Syracuse.
  • Watched some movies (and other fun stuff) with the nifty new Roku, from Netflix.
  • Survived a whole week of school, including schedule changes out the wazoo, broken copiers, and other mishaps.
  • Added a bunch of books to my “to-read” pile, but made little progress.
  • Also saw Tropic Thunder–hardly brilliant, but quite amusing.

There’s probably more, but that’s all I’ve got for now…

Several thousand words

So, I still haven’t carved out any time to write…but I did upload some of the photos that were on my camera. To prove how long it’s been, I give you a birthday card I got from Samantha:

She finds good cards. I need to know where she gets them. 😉

We also took some photos at Rand’s cousin’s wedding two weekends ago. Here’s one that I particularly liked:

Rand wants me to let you all know that he took it. 😉

More photos here. Enjoy!

The week is over

And I collapse into an exhausted puddle of goo.

Things have gone well. I’ll give a more extensive update when I have more energy.

We have a lot of little things planned this weekend, so I will not likely be spending much time in front of the computer.

Happy Friday, all! Go celebrate the return of the Pumpkin Spice syrup at Starbucks. 😉

Election humor, facebook style

Jonathan Grim is a guy from my hometown. When I logged in to facebook this afternoon to see my updates, I saw a whole bunch of these. I thought it was amusing, so I took a screenshot. 😀

I hope Jon doesn’t mind…
