Retail therapy

So, what does a girl do when she’s about to be out of work for a month? Why, she goes shopping, of course…

I didn’t mean to, really. But I’ve got that reunion coming up…and yeah, I’ve got things I could wear, but who wants to wear something old to their class reunion?

I ended up, among other places, at Ann Taylor Loft. And I walked out with this:

It fits beautifully. I was afraid the straps would be too long, but get this–they’re adjustable. Genius.

And it’s even something I can wear to work, if I can find a little sweater or shrug to wear with it (which I think is going to be harder than it should be. I wish I could knit or crochet).

They also had a cute little black eyelet skirt in my size for $15, so I got it. No photo online…I’ll have to take one.

And curse eBay and its evil ways…although I don’t have any occasion to wear this (yet) I keep looking longingly at this. It is stunning. It is exactly what I’ve always wanted. It is CHEAP, even with overseas shipping and insurance. And it’s whispering “Erin, buy me. I can hang in a closet until you need me…” What, you don’t hear it? 😉

  1. I was going to ask if you were going…no surpise I skipped mine last year.

    Very cute dress.

Some years ago, I was looking for dresses with sleeves. I needed a ‘nice’ dress to wear to a March wedding, and another when I hosted that cheesy Newlywed-to-Be game at the Bridal show. No chance. All dresses come sleeveless, or worse…with just straps. And yes; finding a shrug of cute sweater or wrap? Impossible.

  2. I’ve been thinking about that dress since yesterday. Something doesn’t feel right. I don’t know if it’s the shipping cost or where they’re located (if you get screwed). I’m just not sure. It is absolutely lovely though. Question is: will it still be there when you’re back working? If you don’t need it today, why tie your money up in it now? I say go back to Ann Taylor Loft, which is where I’d be spending money if they went over size 16 (and my ultimate weight loss goal is “to shop at Ann Taylor Loft” — which I’ve never admitted until right now).

  3. I think you could just wear a fine gauge knit white or black cardigan with the dress.

Do you really want to buy your wedding gown on eBay??

  4. Erin-it is really risky to purchase stuff on ebay from outside the US. I’ve known more than a handful of people who have gotten really screwed and have to way to get their money back. I cautioned them against their purchases, and they didn’t listen…Besides the fact that they charge $147 for wrapping and shipping, it sounds really risky. However, the dress is beautiful!

  5. I know that some sellers on eBay charge outrageous shipping/handling fees on a low-priced item to avoid paying higher listing and final value fees. eBay frowns on this, of course. I think they bust people for it if they catch them.

  6. The picture of the item in question did not show up on my browser. Now I am consumed with curiosity about what it looks like.

  7. Thanks. 🙂

Jen, I hate everyday-wear shrugs, like teenagers wear with t-shirts. Sometimes they can cute w/the right dress, though…although truthfully, I’d probably be more inclined to wear a cropped cardigan than a true shrug.

Ray, I’ll email you a pic later, but I won’t be able to do it until I get home.

  8. I thought being a (con-going) fan meant never having to say “where can I wear this?”
