I read Kelly’s post this morning, and it echoes a lot of things I’ve been feeling. This little blog disaster kind of helped solidify those feelings for me.
I’m not going to walk away from erin-go-blog completely…I enjoy it too much. What I am going to do is limit myself. Spend more time working on the “real work” of writing. Query markets for nonfiction. Work on short stories. Start one of those novels. Finish that screenplay. You know, those kinds of things.
I’m going to consider erin-go-blog on temporary hiatus until the backup issue is resolved. It shouldn’t be terribly long, and as I said, you can check here for updates. You can also check the places I go, where I intend to be posting regularly.
Thanks.
The first two posts I read this morning deal with scaling back on blogs! What are you doin to me?? 🙂
Best of luck to you in finding a better balance to this (as I have no idea where I’m going with mine, I’ll be watching closely)!
Well, like I said…I’m not giving it up, just shifting my energy a bit. 🙂 I just want to make sure I’m making the best possible use of my time.
I wish you luck. I’ve been through ups and downs with Blatherings as well.
These days I consider Blatherings part of my writing life…I’ve gotten both writing and illustrating assignments because of it, and recently started getting Google AdSense checks (!). I’ve also found that posting regularly to my blog has helped me improve my craft.
However, there were times in the past where I’ve put Blatherings on hiatus as well, usually when there were other parts of my life I wanted to sort out. I’ve also known many writers who have given up their blogs permanently because they weren’t getting anything out of them. Each case is different.
I wish you luck!
I go through cycles of insane blogging enmeshment – and feeling a pull to the “real world”, and people. The truth is, both are real, Internet and Internot. We each just need to find our own balance. Go with your instincts… you’ll be fine. 🙂
I think it’s valuable for all of us to remember that what we read online about each other, no matter how much or how little, represents a tiny fraction of the complexity behind the posts.
How’d you fix it?
Oh, I didn’t…I just copied and pasted a few of the posts that were in the google cache.
Do what you need to do Erin. I do hope that you don’t give it up completely.
I won’t…I’m already going a little bit crazy! Thanks, Brian.
