Teaching woes

I had to move the 8th graders back into rows today, and they hate me again. Particularly the girls that I’ve had to separate because they talk too much.

“This is so unfair.”

“I hate sitting in the front.”

“I cannot *wait* until Mrs. F comes back.”

Sigh.

Also, I will not be sorry to see my Wednesday night community college class go. Really. I had another night where only about ten of them showed up. The week before a paper is due, the students are required to have rough drafts done. I devote most of the class time to doing in-class critiques and then making myself available for questions. I’ve never seen a group bolt so fast as they did last night. I’ll need to rethink this plan in the future.

I’m not going to be teaching any summer classes, because apparently summer evening classes go fast. Sigh. I didn’t want to take day classes, because I’m not sure what else I’m going to be doing. I will be back in the fall, however…hopefully as a supplement to my *real* teaching job.

I want today to be over.
