Import done

Whew.

I’ve RE-imported all the posts from blogger. They start in March of 2004…so I lost all of October 03-February 04. (and a few other random posts, nothing major) But a lot of that does exist in some form or another…from when I thought I was going to make a novel out of it. šŸ˜‰

Also, I lost most of April and May of this year. I might still have some of that in the database I backed up but can’t figure out how to restore. Turned out to be a gigantic pain, but not really a tragedy.

The biggest pain is that I will eventually have to reformat and categorize all of those blogger posts. I’ve got nearly all of 2004 done. Except November, which didn’t import the first time for some reason.

But it looks like the second import got everything, with very few duplicates. Yay.

Lesson learned: do not mess with *anything* without doing a backup first.

  1. I feel your pain. Importing from Blogger wasn’t too bad, but categorizing those suckers and changing the links was a pain in the butt!

  2. If I dare be smug and annoying (and am I ever otherwise?) I would have thought that witnessing the travails at Beimel Photographics at the time of the hard drive crash of July 1998 would have made you a compulsive backer upper of everything digital. I know that experience chastened me to the point where I do it compulsively now. In the matter of moving blogs about and playing with them, I am reminded of Sean Connery’s Jimmy Flynn saying to Andy Garcia’s George Stone in The Untouchables, “Did you check it once? Then leave it alone.” Not that it is apropos to your situation but you know how I like to repeat movie dialog when I haven’t the inspiration for making up my own. Wishing you a delightful live music weekend, Ray
