Christmas is interesting

Returned to Buffalo late yesterday afternoon, after spending four days in PA for the holiday.

Saturday and early Sunday were a flurry of baking activity. When Rand and I arrived on Friday night, my dad was finishing up approximately 27 nut rolls. He’s going to have to go into business or something, because everyone wants one.

I made the best ginger cookies evah, which seemed to be a hit with everyone who tried them. Also made chocolate chip cookies, which weren’t bad, but not nearly as good as Stephanie’s. (hint) Mom made some of her yummy peanut butter cookies, and Rand and I frosted cutouts. (I whipped up a batch of buttercream frosting.)

We both got lots of fun goodies. I got Scattergories, which we played on Christmas Day along with Cranium. Sadly, I ended my reign as never having lost a game of Cranium. Aw.

I also got the Alias box set! Whee! And season 1 of Veronica Mars…lots of extras to watch. 🙂 Season 2 is on its way. Ummm…just about every book that was on my wish list, and a bunch of movies. I’ve also got a couple of gift cards that need spending, including one from Eden. She’s too cool. 🙂

Rand and I played with my cousin’s two little boys. Colten might be the cutest child I’ve ever seen. (no photos, sorry!)

Tuesday, I had lunch with my high school friends. It looks like the day-after-Christmas lunch is going to be a tradition, which is kind of nice. My only complaint was that it was hard to talk to everyone, because there were about ten of us seated at a long table. But it was fun to see everyone and catch up, of course.

Other than that? Well, I ate way too much, of course. I probably gained about ten pounds. Bleah.

Hope you all had a Merry Christmas! 🙂

  1. I will attest to the scrumptiousness of the ginger cookies. And please don’t feel too bad about the Cranium thing. You were beaten by a team of lucky sober ringers for whom the die rolled well. It was a fun evening and I am so glad I got to share it with your family.

    *sniff in air*

    😉

    I’ll give you that one b/c he’s a relative.

All I can talk about is my kids, ya know…

  3. can you share your Dad’s nut roll recipe ??? I made only 6 of them and I was exhausted ( family recipe – Hungarian ) .

  4. My Christmas included an atlatl, a bow, a crossbow, some throwing axes, a lost dart (my brother-in-law’s fault), a lost bolt (that one was me– I still swear it’s buried in the mud), four bolts stuck several inches deep into stumps (both my husband and brother-in-law), and one of the stuck bolts then severed by a throwing axe (brother-in-law again). And a lot of mud. And the forge. And cats, but those stayed strictly indoors.

My Christmas was *definitely* interesting. 🙂
