Fun with baking

Friends, my shiny new Kitchenaid mixer is sitting on the counter, beckoning to me.

“Erin,” it’s saying, “make something.”

I just don’t know what to make! I’m itching to bake, but I’m not craving anything in particular. And so I turn to you, dear readers…share with me a suggestion, a favorite recipe, whatever, and help me break in my new mixer!

🙂

Ookla/Greg Klyma show August 1

Text stolen from an email Rand sent his friends:

Sixteen years ago, Ookla the Mok performed their first live show at a bar in Buffalo called Broadway Joe’s. Ten years ago, Greg Klyma left the security of a day job and began the life of a professional touring musician. Ookla and Greg (along with friends Tom Bianchi and Sick) will celebrate these variant anniversaries by performing a show together at Broadway Joe’s on August 1.

This show will serve as CD release party for Greg’s new album, “Rust Belt Vagabond,” as well as a return for Ookla to the venue that started it all.

The Place: Broadway Joe’s
3051 Main Street (Buffalo)
http://bjoes. com/

The Date: Friday, August 1, 2008

The Time: Doors at 7:30, show at 8:00

The Price: Ten dollars at the door.

Please help us spread the word — let anyone you know who loves Greg Klyma or Ookla the Mok know about this show. While you’re at it, let anyone you know who you *think* might love Ookla the Mok or Greg Klyma know about the show as well.

And as always, thanks for the support!

New wedding blog post

I posted a long-ish and rather photo heavy post about Greg Klyma and Tom Bianchi’s performance at our reception over at the wedding blog. Enjoy! 🙂

Good news for my hometown

(I thought I published this post days ago, but apparently I only saved it as a draft…)

Last night, my brother called me to ask me if I remembered a Lawrence Donachy from high school. I told him that the name sounded vaguely familiar, but not really, no,

I asked him why, and he told me that he had read in the Pittsburgh paper that Donachy had been arrested for the 1999 murder of Irene Challingsworth.

Nine years ago.

The case kind of rocked my little hometown…there’s not a whole lot of violent crime there. When you did hear about murders, they were usually murder-suicide crimes of passion, usually neatly tied up with very little investigation needed.

Irene Challingsworth owned a beauty shop in her home. Someone broke into her home, presumably sexually assaulted her, and stabbed her three times in the neck.

At the time, I was a reporter for the DuBois Courier-Express. I escaped having to report on the murder itself–perhaps I was already tied up with something else?–and the paper sent another more seasoned reporter to get the story.

I was, though, the person who had to keep following up on the story…who had to keep asking the police if there was any new information, who had to attend press conferences and report that no, there was nothing new to report.

I, like many in my town, assumed this case would go unsolved, but I am very happy that it has been resolved.

LOLz

I just couldn’t resist adding an LOL caption to this photo:

Hee.

Honeymoon photos are slowly being uploaded to flickr.

Updates

1. First post up at the wedding blog.

2. Honeymoon photos have made their way from my camera to the computer, but not yet to flickr.

3. Rand just sent me this, which made me laugh…

4. DMV experience (at the ECC North location) was completely and utterly painless. Whee!

5. Wal-Mart happily gave me store credit for a miniblind I bought and decided I didn’t want, but lost the receipt for. Win! Already spent store credit.

6. Prepared chicken for dinner using a new slow cooker recipe. Cross your fingers!

Promises, promises

I had a pretty busy day yesterday. In the “taking care of business” end of things, I made it to the social security office to file the official “name change” paperwork, and my new card should arrive in 7-10 days.

I also signed the form to change my name at the bank, so they’ll be sending me a new card.

Today, I tackle the DMV. Pray for me. 😉

I also filled out one of the forms to put a wedding announcement in the paper. I decided to skip the Buffalo News, because it was too much of a hassle. (Bridal Portraits, anyone? Yeah, not for me…) I am submitting to two papers in my hometown and the Bee. I think I have to stop in at the Bee, though, because their online form is a little bit too old school…it assumes that if you’re submitting a wedding announcement, you must be 23 years old. For example, it has spaces for high school and college information, but not for graduate school or current employment. And because it’s an online form, there’s no way to add anything. Hm. Anyway.

The living room continues to be a HUGE mess, cluttered up with gifts that need to be put away, and stuff we dumped there when we arrived home from the honeymoon. Sigh. I started the laundry yesterday, but we still have a lot of that to do, too.

OH, and there’s writing thank you notes to do as well. So, my honeymoon pictures will be coming soon…and I intend to start a series of wedding-related posts over at the wedding blog too. I’d like to write down some of my thoughts while they’re still relatively fresh.

Walter is posting reception photos now. It’s so exciting, seeing them pop up! 🙂

Ok, stuff to do. Hope to be back later!

Home

I will be sharing photos, thoughts, and memories galore in the coming days, but this is just a quick note to say that we are home. We are both tired, but very, very happy!

We have opened our cards and gifts, and are overwhelmed by the generosity of our family and friends. We both feel extraordinarily loved.

There is one gift I need to post about in particular, because it came without a card attached…we got a lovely piece from Cone Five Pottery, and we have no idea who it’s from. So if you’re reading? Please let us know! 😉

Rand is back to work tomorrow, and I am going to be taking care of lots of business. Probably at some point I’ll be looking for some temporary work as well–August is going to be awfully tight for me!

That’s it for now. Feel free to comment or email. 😀

Wedded bliss

Just a quick hi to say that we are having a wonderful time… 🙂

Lots ‘n lots of pics are up on flickr. Do check out our wedding photo group. Anyone can view the photos, but if you’d like to join, just send me a note and I’ll add you.

Ta!
