Ooh, pass the popcorn…

One of my favorite bloggers is SF writer John Scalzi. When John isn’t posting photos of his cat, he’s frequently snarking about something in the media.

John recently wrote about a piece in The Guardian (more here) in which the author (Ben Myers) whines about how teh Intarweb makes writers lazy, or something.

Ben commented on John’s post (his comment included the insult “hideous arse candles, which, as more than one reader pointed out, would make an excellent name for a rock band), and then John wrote a post grading his snark. (He got a C-). MediaBistro has picked up on the fun, and there are hundreds of entertaining comments to read.

More oldness

So yesterday, the same day I got mistaken for a 14-year-old, I had a class that was working on a handout. One of the sheets in the handout asked the students to imagine what they would be doing at age 30.

“I’ll be in a retirement home,” one girl snarked.

“Hey, watch it,” I said jokingly, but apparently not jokingly enough. She looked vaguely horrified.

“Relax, I’m kidding,” I said. “I’m 30.”

You know, -ish.

Man, that’s rough. I realize that to a 12-or-13-year-old, 30 is ancient, but ouch!

Hahahahaha

So I’m playing the iLike challenge, where you listen to a song clip and have to identify the title or artist. I got one that gave me the following options for artists:

a)The Strokes
b)The Vines
c)The Killers
d)The Hives

Aren’t they all the same band? Can you say I have no idea???

Happy birthday Shakespeare!

Today is the anniversary of the death of, and what is accepted to be the birthday of William Shakespeare.

Shakespeare

In honor of the bard, I thought I’d share a couple of my favorite quotes.

Sin from my lips, O trespass sweetly urg’d:
Give me my sin again.
~Romeo and Juliet

There is nothing either good or bad, but thinking makes it so.
~Hamlet

I’d invite you to share your favorite quotes, too!

Old photo fun

I just uploaded a bunch of old photos that I scanned today. They’re from high school, so you know they’re going to be good for a laugh.

I asked Scott, my Australian penpal, for his permission to post a couple of photos I had from back in the day, and he gave me his blessing. So here ya go:

You can see a more recent photo on his myspace page.

And just for giggles, here’s one of me about to go snorkeling in Hawaii:

And there’s so much more! See for yourself. 🙂

I’m a South park character!

I had tried one of these character generator thingies a long time ago, but this one gave me a much better result than I got before.

I did Rand, too!

And I learned how to do screenshots. Yes, I’m slow. But I’m learning. 😉

Anywho, I got the idea from Debbie’s Blathering,  where she posted a link to a friend’s blog. Said friend had created characters for Debbie and her husband (and others).

Silly quizziness

ETA: Interesting. Rand somehow took this quiz while we were eating breakfast together. I wonder how that happened…can anyone enlighten me?

Grown-up underoos

Via Jen.

This amused me greatly, because I actually had a set of Wonder Woman underoos when I was a kid. I used to run around in them pretending to be Wonder Woman. Oh, like you didn’t. 😉

Supergirl also available…

Ha!

So I was watching an episode of The Simpsons with Rand earlier today, and something (I don’t remember what) made me laugh out loud.

Rand said, “You laugh just like Mrs. Krabappel.”

I’m not sure how I should feel about that. 😉
