Long week…

I took some pictures over the weekend…not a whole lot, but I hope to get them posted this weekend.

I went to my cousin’s bridal shower last Sunday, which was nice. Her wedding is at the beginning of November. Sunday night, her FIL-to-be died in a car accident. I can’t even imagine what they’re going through right now. 🙁

My week has been busy, but mostly uneventful. I’ve gotten caught up with the 8th grade grading, and now I have a stack of college essays to read. Lucky me…

And with that, I’d better get to work. Happy Friday.

Ack!

Starting tomorrow, I’m a busy, busy girl…new teacher orientation tomorrow, followed by two days of inservice. Friday off, Monday holiday. Tuesday inservice. Wednesday…school starts!

Holy crap. 😉

I saw my mom on Saturday. She and her friend came up for the day, and we did a bit of dress shopping (no buying, just looking!). We stopped in at the shop where Rand bought my ring and talked to the ladies there. I wanted to let them know how happy (and surprised!) I was. (It’s Sarah’s Vintage and Estate Jewelry on Main Street in Williamsville.  They’re awesome.) Then we had dinner at Brennan’s. I had a Clancy. Yum!

We saw Rand’s parents on Sunday, which was also very nice. 🙂

Today, I met up with Susan for lunch. I hadn’t seen her in quite a while, so that was fun!

And that’s about all my excitement for the moment…I’m guessing posting will be light over the next couple of days.

Friday roundup

Oh, my. So much to say…so little time.

  • I had a really excellent time at my reunion. If you haven’t seen them yet, the photos are here. I had some wine, danced, and talked to lots of people I haven’t talked to in a very long time. It was great to see Anita (looking very tall and glamorous, as usual), as I only get to see her once every 4-5 years. I wish the turnout had been better, as there are lots of people I would have liked to see but didn’t. Ah well. The food was decent, and the DJ was…well…what you’d expect. There was much hair metal.
  • I also attended a family reunion during the day, and then Rand and I headed back to Buffalo on Sunday. And then I desperately needed a nap…therefore, I did not get to start reading Harry Potter until Sunday evening! It was painful, but I survived. I still owe a proper review (which I will be posting at Required Reading), but for now, here’s a post I wrote on point of view at Daily Writing Tips (it references Harry Potter).
  • My summer class is going fine…it’s much larger than I expected it to be. (I have 21 students registered. I think a couple of them have dropped off…) Summer classes usually aren’t this big. I’m choosing to believe that word has gotten out that I’m fabulous. 😉
  • Eden is famous. She’s all over teh intarwebs, and she’s gonna be on TV. It’s all over the kerfluffle caused by this video.
  • I had lunch with Jen on Wednesday, which was good! We ate at Steel Crazy Cafe, which was not as good as we’d hoped…
  • I received some strange and nasty troll-ish comments on my flickr account. I deleted the comments and blocked the user(s), but apparently I should have waited for flickr to investigate first. Oops. My bad. (the backstory is something I don’t feel comfortable posting about, sorry.)
  • I got an early birthday present. 🙂 More details later…

Er, that’ll do for now, I guess…happy Friday!

Gift afghan

My grandma crochets, and she does beautiful work. When I saw her over the weekend,
she gave me this afghan:

It’s lovely, and I’m very happy to have it. But, um…when grandma gave it to me, she said, “I can’t be waiting around until you get married.”

Yes, folks…my grandma was afraid to wait to give me the afghan as a wedding gift, because she might be dead by then.

Sigh.

Thanks, grandma!

Good weekend

Busy, lots to write about. Later.

Photos are being uploaded now, as I read Harry Potter. (which I did not have time to do over the weekend! Blast! I started last night, after a nap…PLEASE DO NOT SPOIL ME! We’ll chat when I’m done.) 🙂

I’ll post again when the photos are online. Happy Monday!

*UPDATE* photos are online.

Photos from the weekend

I’ve got some photos up at flickr from the weekend.

Shakespeare in Delaware Park Friday evening. Our friend Ron’s daughter (Ariel) was one of the high school interns.

The interns performed A Midsummer Night’s Dream in 40 minutes, playing all the parts themselves.

We also visited with my parents, who came to town for the Dancing with the Stars tour. Late night snacks at Pano’s, and breakfast at the Pancake House. (no photos)

Visited with Samantha during the afternoon, and enjoyed takeout from Taste of India. (no photos)

Watched The Apartment, with Jack Lemmon and Shirley MacLaine.

Weekend update

Got my hair cut. I’m going to try and get some decent pictures up later. I went to Samantha’s stylist, and she was wonderful!

I didn’t get anything major done to the length or style–the first thing the stylist said to me was “Oh, I love this cut on you!” So, we just did some shaping and molding, and I really love the way it looks now. She also colored it, and I think the color looks great. Then she offered to do my brows, and since I was planning on getting them done soon anyway, I agreed. She was a pro at this, too–it was a quick and relatively painless experience.

And the best part was that it was very reasonably priced. Yay!

Thanks to everyone who commented and voted in my poll.

We saw Ratatouille over the weekend, which was great fun. The moment when Ego the restaurant critic (voiced by Peter O’Toole) eats the ratatouille takes the movie from “fun” to “brilliant.” Really. I got a little misty…

Speaking of misty, we finished watching Season 5 of Scrubs, and I cried a lot.

We also attended a graduation party for one of Rand’s cousins. It was nice, except that my allergies were in full flare-up. Ick.

So, that’s me. Hope you all had a lovely weekend. Happy Monday!

Quick weekend update

Rand and I spent the weekend in PA with my family. It had been a while since we’d seen them, and my aunt was in town from Maryland. My brother was also home, with his Shih Tzu puppy, Dudley:

Dudley

Dudley is a very active little guy, and so he was tough to photograph. Currently, he’s afraid to walk down stairs, so he climbs to the top of the stairs and waits for someone to come and get him. (my brother had the same problem when he was a toddler. heehee) In this photo, I was trying to capture him waiting at the top of the stairs.

I was a little concerned about how my allergies would be with the dog around. I took my regular allergy medicine, and I was fine. I’ve since learned that the Shih Tzu is one of the breeds that are typically good for allergy sufferers. They have hair rather than fur, and they shed very little. Of course, I was still careful to wash my hands and such after playing with him.

I didn’t really take any other photos…I didn’t bring the camera, so I only had the phone!

Anyway…we had dinner at my grandpa’s on Saturday night, and breakfast on Sunday morning. My aunt made her famous chocolate chip cookies after Saturday’s dinner–yum! I should have taken a picture of those. They’re about the size of your head!

After breakfast on Sunday, we presented my dad with his Father’s Day gift-the series set of Firefly, and some dark chocolate non-pariels. We also visited with my other set of grandparents, who recently celebrated their 60th Anniversary! Then, before heading back to Buffalo, Rand and I went for a walk/hike with my parents at East Branch Dam. It had gotten pretty warm by that point, so the walk left us rather tired.

I have to be on my way, now. I actually have work this afternoon! Happy Monday, everyone.
