Weekend update

Bah.

I posted about my weekend, did not get any indication that there was any problem with my post, but it seems to have disappeared.

If it wasn’t such a gigantic pain in my butt, I would be seriously considering buying another domain name and moving this blog over to my own server.

Did I mention that I hate blogger?

Oops. Theryn was right. Here’s the afore-mentioned post.*

Friday night, I served as Jen’s bus to Rochester. I overheard the words “Dinosaur Barbecue”, which sounded much more appealing than cereal in my PJs. 🙂

Side note…the more time Jen spends in Rochester, the more time she spends at X’s old haunts; places like The Old Toad and McGregor’s. I kinda hope she runs into him. I want her to claim the case of beer he owes her.

Hmmm…Saturday, attended the annual Big Brothers/Big Sisters party. This was my first one…they’ve always been at inconvenient times for me. Out-of-town weekends, class evenings, etc. It was nice. A Chinese New Year theme (I didn’t know you were supposed to dress for the theme…), food, entertainment and awards.

When I decided to become a big sister, I had been hoping for the kind of relationship my aunt has with her little…they’ve remained close as she’s grown up, gotten married, had children of her own, and they still talk frequently and get together whenever they can. I don’t know that I’m ever going to have that with my little, but I’m okay with that now. I’m still proud to be a part of the program, and I will be there for her for as long as she wants/needs me to be.

As I looked around, and watched the slide show from theh past year’s events, it made me kind of sad to notice the lack of men in the program. There were a lot of boys with big sisters. Guys in WNY: become a big brother! Seriously.

They took photos, but they don’t appear to be up on the site yet.

After that, I talked to my mom and read a whole bunch.

Today, I’m waiting around to pick Rand up at the airport. He’s been off visiting his parents, and I’m *really* looking forward to seeing him!

*Blogger is still annoying.

Blog poll

I’m just curious…I think I’m aware of *most* of the people who read and comment here, but I’m interested in bringing out the lurkers. 🙂

Basically, I’m wondering who you are, how you got here, and what keeps you reading!

Leave me a comment, or send me an email if you prefer.

😉

Yet another blogging adventure

I’ve joined with my good friends Eden and Jam to form [Your Agenda Here], a place for us to help each other and the rest of the blogosphere stay informed and involved about issues that are important to us. Please stop by and feel free to add your own $.02. Thank you. 🙂

This is fitting

You Are a Snarky Blogger!
You’ve got a razor sharp wit that bloggers are secretly scared of.
And that’s why they read your posts as often as they can!

About a blog

With all this talk of “blogiversaries,” I decided to dig back through the Erin-go-blog archives and see what was up.

I started the blog, on the urging of a friend, on Feb. 21, 2002. I posted a test post. It said, “This is a test. BEEEEEEEEEP!”

I didn’t post again until January 26, 2003. I was alone watching the Super Bowl and ranting about the Coors Light Twins commercials.

I posted about once a month (twice in May!) until July, when I posted a whopping 3 times! Posted twice in August, but I really started posting regularly in September 2003 when I decided to also keep an online chronicle of my student teaching experience.

My first post in September was on Sept. 8, so I’m calling today my blogiversary. Yay, me.

Of course, the true blogging on a daily (or almost daily) basis started in October…after the infamous breakup. This became a forum for me to express all of those crazy, sad, angry, bitter, heartbroken feelings I was going through. I took some time to skim through it, and it’s amazing to me how far I’ve come…I can’t believe it’s been almost a year. At the same time, I can’t believe that he was still in my life only a year ago.

So thank you, blogger, and faithful readers. You’ve been my therapy. 🙂

We will return to your regularly scheduled blog tomorrow

It’s been a good, relaxing weekend. Lots of reading. I’ll tell you all about it later.

In the meantime, my thanks to All Things Jen(nifer) and, of course, Jennifer Hawkins for the increased traffic.

589 hits in the past two days!

You like me. You really like me!

But don’t take their word for it. See for yourself!

Talk to me, people…

I just had a comment/email conversation with another writer type, and one thing we (writer types in general) have in common is that we want validation. We want to know that people are reading. That’s what drives us to keep writing. So, basically, if you’re entertained, amused, annoyed, baffled or otherwise inspired by something I write here, let me know! Leave a comment, send an email, but talk to me!

You may have noticed the counters I’ve installed at the bottom of the page…both a blessing and a curse. On the one hand, I can see who (at least generally) is reading the blog. On the other, I can see that people are reading and not commenting. Here are some ISPs that I see frequently, but I’m not sure who you are. Get out from behind that wall of anonymity. Show yourself!

Channeling my energy…

So I’m playing with the new blogger profile feature, and I see that I’ve written over 50,000 words since I started blogging. And now that I’m in a writing-type job again, I’m probably writing several thousand words a week there. Not to mention journaling (which has fallen off somewhat) and e-mailing, papers, projects, student teaching journal, etc. My point? If I spent the same amount of time on my fiction (which really doesn’t amount to all that much. It’s not like I sit for hours on end blogging. Or writing academic papers) I could have easily written a novel by now. Must use writing skills for good!
🙂

It’s a small, small world.

Congrats to my little brother, who will soon start a new job at WTAE-TV in Pittsburgh!

I’m trying to ignore the weirdness that will surely manifest itself over this fact…assboy’s brother-in-law is a meteorologist at WTAE. But that’s my issue, not his. 😛

On blogging

So I’ve gotten to wondering…how personal is too personal? On the one hand, fancying myself a bit of a writer, everything is out there. My life is an open book…er, blog…I tend to write fiction out of personal experience, and most of what happens in my life will probably end up in a short story/essay/novel/screenplay one day. (At least I hope so!)

But the blog forum is strange. My own blog is a mixture of personal insights, pop culture, social/political commentary, links, and journal. Sometimes my purpose is to rant; sometimes it’s to entertain; sometimes it’s personal catharsis. My closest friends read it. My family (occasionally) reads it. Random strangers read it. And it’s concievable that the subject of a particular post could stumble across it. Is this wrong? Should I be more guarded about what I put into this forum?

Thoughts? 🙂
