Somebody’s getting married ;)

Next time y’all hear from me, I’ll be a Mrs. 😀

27 things finished

Over at the wedding blog!

One more day…can you believe it? 🙂

Overwhelmed

And a teeny bit weepy…

Rand and I were the recipients of a virtual shower, organized by Jen. We got lots of awesome virtual loot, as well as heartfelt wishes, silly cartoons, and lots and lots of love.

Many thanks to Jen, Thomas, Debbie, Eden (aka Sallie), Jam, Deoris, Theryn, Shannon, Jen, Sonya, Luis & Alisa, Jen’s lil’ brother and SIL, Stephanie, BuffaloJenn, Tony & vixy, and khaosworks. I think that’s everyone.

You are all amazing. We love you guys. 🙂

A big old pile of crazy

That’s what I feel like right about now.

There is SO MUCH to do. I know there are people clamoring to hear more about the bachelorette party…and to them, I say…it was an awesomely fun evening with a bunch of awesomely fun ladies. I dressed up like a cheerleader, wore a sash, and had too many margaritas. Check out Jen’s photos (plus the few pathetic ones I took) on flickr. 😀

The weekend was a whirlwind of activity. Visited with Rand’s family on the 4th, and then I headed to PA on Saturday morning. The dress is fabulous, and is currently hanging from my curtain rod with a sheet draped over it.

I came dangerously close to ordering a new pair of shoes today. Because suddenly, I want sandals. I’m worried that my poor little toes will sweat to death inside my adorable pink suede shoes. Sigh.

Since Saturday, I’ve spent way too much money on stupid crap. Blah. I guess this is what happens.

I got my hair cut last week, and I’m not sure I like it. :-/ I went out and had my color done today, and I like that, but I’m feeling meh about the style. I’m just hoping cousin Niki can do something cute with it on Saturday.

I haven’t posted much in the way of updates on the wedding blog (I’ll have to do one final one this week), but I continue to post the 27 things I love about Rand. Do check that out if you haven’t yet!

Okay, back to the crazy for me. I’m trying to poke my head around the ‘net every now and then, but…well…

😉

Happy Monday!

Busybusybusybusy

Do I have lots of things I’d like to be blogging about? Yeah. Do I have ANY spare time? Uh, not so much.

Today, I am off to pick up my wedding gown in PA. Whoo! Maybe I’ll have time for a full update tomorrow.

A belated happy Canada Day to my friends to the north, and a slightly less belated happy 4th to my US readers. Hope you’re all enjoying the festivities/long weekend. 🙂

A funny

I have not seen Wanted, the new comic book movie based on the book by Mark Millar, starring Angelina Jolie and James MacAvoy, but Rand and John went to see it Friday night.

When they picked me up after the bachelorette festivities, they told me a little bit about the movie. Rand had filled me in a tiny bit on the source material, so they were telling me about some of the changes to the story.

There was one particular story element that I wasn’t quite sure I had remembered correctly. I thought perhaps I had dreamed it. So Saturday morning, I asked Rand…

Me: I can’t quite remember what you were telling me about the movie last night. There was something about a loom of…what?

Rand: Loom of Destiny.

Me: So I didn’t dream that.

😉

Thank you!

Friday night, I had a rockin’ night out with the girls in celebration of my upcoming nuptials. Special thanks to Jen, who put the whole shindig together, but thanks also to Samantha, Dayna, Trisha, Rachel, and Jenn (and Susan, who left before we took this photo!) for coming out and joining in the fun. 😉

I owe more people more specific thank yous as well, and…well…I’m getting to it! I’ll also write more about the evening’s antics when I have time (hahahahaha), but do check out Jen’s photos. (Yeah, I took a few, but hers are better…)

And yeah, there was a theme involved. I’ll get to that. 😉

Thanks, girls!!

Bloggers in the news

Thank you for sharing: for women, blogs are becoming as essential as lipstick

Me, Jen, and jen14221 are all featured in an article in today’s Buffalo News.

Kids these days

So, all the little kiddies at the school where I finished the year love them some Souja Boy. I did some poetry activities with the 7th graders and I asked them to find some song lyrics so we could look at them for poetic merit. Several of them brought Soulja Boy lyrics, and I was vaguely horrified, mostly because they hardly have any words. Here’s one that one of the kids brought in:

My chain too silly
My wrist too silly
The girls throw me dish cuz my rims big billin
My ride too silly
I ride too silly
We for fantastic cuz I got a deally
Cuz now I’m worth a millian

I was like, um, what?

So last Friday night, I helped chaperone an end-of-the-year dance for the 8th graders. The last song the DJ played was Crank Dat by Soulja Boy:

Soulja boy off in this hoe
Watch me crank it
Watch me roll
Watch me crank that soulja boy
Then super man that hoe
Now watch me you
(crank that soulja boy)
Now watch me you
(crank that soulja boy)
Now watch me you
(crank that soulja boy)
Now watch me you
(crank that soulja boy)

(some of the lyrics replace “hoe”, which I thought was spelled “ho”, with “oh”. Which of those is accurate? I dunno. I guess ho makes marginally more sense.)

That’s pretty much the whole song. But what I learned Friday night was that it’s a dance. And it actually looked pretty cool to see the entire 8th grade class doing it, and so I thought, “well, maybe I can understand why 8th graders like this talentless twerp.”

Here’s a video from YouTube:

I was reading some comments on one of the videos posted earlier, and they were pretty entertaining. It was based on one of those comments that I went to urbandictionary.dom to look up “Superman dat ho.” And then I was both disgusted and horrified.

I guess my point here, if I have one at all, is that I’m OLD, and I don’t understand this newfangled music. I’m going to go tell some kids to get off my lawn now…

Be excellent to each other

I was, as many were, very sad to hear of George Carlin’s death. I encountered Carlin’s standup more as an adult than as a kid, so one of my first experiences with George Carlin was as Bill and Ted’s most excellent guide Rufus.

rufus, bill and ted

RIP, George.
