Work work work

Today and tomorrow are my last college classes for the semester. I still need to grade a bunch of stuff and meet with students briefly next week to give them back their work and discuss their final grades with them. Then I turn in the grades, and I’m done!

I just found out that I will not be teaching a summer session this year. I was only available for one class–an evening class during the first session–and they weren’t able to give me that class. I couldn’t take any day classes, obviously, because of my current long-term job, and I couldn’t do session II because of the wedding/honeymoon.

Time-wise, I’m fine with that. Financially, though…this is going to make things tricky for me for July and August. I’m pretty sure that the part time work I’ve been doing for the past two summers is not available this year, but I’m going to check to make sure.

So if anyone knows of anything, please give me a holler. I don’t think I can bear to do the temp agency thing again.

Other than that, I’m consumed with moving tasks and wedding tasks. Soon, I will be able to breathe again…

Quick update

I’ve been a busy (and productive!) girl this weekend. In addition to weddingstuff, I went to a party Friday night, sent the Toasted Cheese newsletter, finished watching season 3 of MASH, had lunch with Rand’s parents, sold a Mother’s Day calligraphy piece on etsy (woohoo!) and prepared it for mailing (I, um, had to make it too, as I didn’t actually have any in stock. I gave them all away last year).

I also got a haircut (but not really, because my stylist didn’t think I needed a cut. He shaped up the back a bit, as it was looking bushy, and didn’t charge me), bought some new shoes.

Other shopping adventures included picking up an external hard drive (I’m running low on drive space), buying a superclearance desk at Office Max for $30, which will get picked up when my parents come to visit in two weeks. (It’s the floor model, so it’s all put together…)

Oh, and laundry. Always laundry.

I’ve been lax with computer-related stuff this weekend, so if you’ve emailed me, played Scrabble with me on Facebook, twittered at me, or anything else, I will get around to it. Soon.

Have a great week!

VHS tapes…what to do?

So, as we prepare for our big move (will be happening sometime this month…), we’re clearing out clutter and giving away/selling/throwing away lots of stuff.

I currently have a bag full of movies on VHS. Many of them are Disney movies. Some of them are unopened. I know I can’t sell them, but is there anyplace that would take them before I just throw them in the garbage? Lemme know if you know of anything.

Duma Key

I finally finished Duma Key this morning. Short review? I loved this book. Love.

I want to hold it and squeeze it and call it George.

Yeah, some of Stephen King’s latest work has been less than stellar…I haven’t even read Cell…but this was King at his best. Creepy and weird and sad, and ultimately completely satisfying.

Yay for good books!

A better day

I’m in a much better mood today…thanks. 🙂

I think I’m just starting to get stressed out about all the things I have going on right now. My brain is fried. I’m madly dashing to get all my grading done (after this week, I have journals to grade, then portfolios, then the college classes are done…however, I still have middle school stuff to grade!). I really feel like I need to get my invitations ready this weekend.

And at that, I should be getting back to my grading…

Scrabble makes everything better

I seriously don’t know what my problem is today. But this was a moment of excitement:

New Scrabble game. My first move: “intrepid” for a bingo. Rock on. 😉

An open letter to the world

Dear world,

I don’t like you very much today. It’s nothing personal, and it’s nothing in particular. Just know that, if I had it my way, I’d be snuggled up under the covers and ignoring you completely.

Signed,

eringoblog

It sure is Monday…

Forgive me for quoting a 15-year-old country song as my subject line. 🙂

I have to say, the weather sure didn’t help in making me want to crawl out from under the covers this morning. I’m not going to complain about the rain, because I know we need it, but ugh. Can’t we have some nice, moderate temperatures for a little while? Is that too much to ask?

The Friday night show at Nietzche’s was fun. I did take some photos, but they’re still on my camera. I’ll get around to posting them eventually. The rest of the weekend? Not much to speak about. Mostly trying to clean up/organize/pack…meanwhile, we wait for an official closing date. Apparently the seller got her lawyer out of a Cracker Jack box. (I can’t take credit for that; it was all Rand.)

Did a bit of shopping yesterday, but it was mostly a bust. Rand bought a pair of pants and a couple of t-shirts. I didn’t buy anything. I did come home and order a few things from Chadwick’s, though, for a very reasonable price. I got $25 off my order and $5 shipping. I hope it all fits! I love shopping online, but I hate having to send things back.

I’m a little more than halfway through Duma Key. I’m enjoying it quite a bit, and regret that I don’t have larger chunks of time to devote to reading. I should be *done* by now!

I’ve got some chicken marinading for dinner, and I should probably figure out what else we’re going to have with it. Hope you’re all having a happy Monday. Later!

Congratulations!

Congrats to my friends Jennifer and Mike, who just welcomed baby Lucas Michael into the family!

TGIF

Halfway through the last day of my first week. It’s going fine…the end of April is a weird time to come in to a classroom. Spring fever has hit–hard–and so it’s going to be difficult for anyone to keep a class under control. But overall, I really can’t complain. I’m reading The House on Mango Street with my 8th graders, and they seem to be liking it so far.

Yeah, I know I haven’t been blogging much…it’s not even so much a matter of time as it is a matter of mental energy. I updated the wedding blog this week, and I regularly update my twitter feed . (You can see my most recent tweets on my sidebar, too.)

Met up with Jen last night for dinner and margaritas at Cozumel, and that was great. 🙂

Tonight, Ookla and The Fibs are playing at Nietzche’s. It’s an early one–I believe the show starts at 6, and Ookla will go on around 8. I’ll be there, if anyone would like to come by!

That’s it for me. Happy Friday!
