15 years? Really?

Well, I’m now ready for my 15-year class reunion tomorrow, having just had my toes all prettied up. (I got a manicure too, but just had them put on clear polish because I hate polish on my nails.) 🙂

Sadly, jen 14221 seems to have passed on her problem to me. 😛

And, while we’re off celebrating the 15 years I’ve been out of high school, Rand and I will also be celebrating 3 years together!

Awww…

I’ll be back with pictures on Monday!

The new Less Than Art is here!

When I came home yesterday, I was greeted by a big pile-o-boxes…which means that the new and improved Less Than Art 10th Anniversary Edition has arrived!

LTA cover

Rand is working on getting it up on CD Baby (at which point it will also be available on iTunes, I believe), but those of you who will see us this weekend will be able to have a copy in your little hands!

I’ve heard it, and it’s really, really good. All the songs are remixed and remastered from their original recordings, and they sound fantastic! 🙂

(For those unaware, Less Than Art is Ookla The Mok’s first album. It includes such classics as Home, Dollar Fifty Movies, Arthur Curry, and Tiberius Rising.)

Week in review

Well, I’m finally able to breathe a bit…grades for two classes are DONE. I’m reading portfolios for my third class, started today, and I have plenty of time to finish them. I’m calculating their final grades as I go along. The fourth class finished up their writing exit exams yesterday. I’m in the home stretch!

I’m working today, and I’ve found myself with an extra free period, so I figured I’d share what I’ve been up to in the past week other than grading papers!

Last Saturday was Free Comic Book Day. Rand and Wolfram made an appearance at Queen City Comics on Main Street.

wolfram and rand

We started the day with breakfast with Wolfram and his wife Rai-an at Amy’s Place, then headed over to the shop at around 11. The guys played three sets with short breaks in between. Small crowds would gather now and then, and several people bought copies of Super Secret. Emil got us pizza from Just Pizza for lunch, which I didn’t realize how much I’d missed until that moment. Later, I was browsing a discount rack in the shop and came across a fun Alias book (a book about the tv show, not the comic). It came with a bonus DVD and has a full episode guide–something the box set is missing. I was contemplating buying it when Emil told me to take it as a gift. Aw…thanks, Emil!

Saturday evening, we met up with jennimi and Scott for dinner at Anchor Bar, and then went to see the Shredd & Ragan Comedy Fest. The Comedy Fest featured Mike Birbiglia, a very, very funny comedian. He was the reason we went. The rest of the so-called fest featured Evil Jim (who really shouldn’t ever do stand-up…eep.), Tom Tran (very funny) and Matt Bergman (pretty funny).

On Sunday, we spent some time visiting Rand’s brother and SIL and their new baby, Aiden.

What a little cutie, eh?

The rest of the week has been kind of a blur. I finished reading The Golden Compass and am nearly finished with The Subtle Knife. I’m really, really liking them. Heroes and Lost both rocked my world this week. I was unsurprised that LaKisha was voted off of Idol this week. (by the way…TiVo is the best thing EVER. I can zip through an episode of AI in 20 minutes.) Yoga continues to be amazing.

There’s probably more, but that’s gonna be it for now, I think. Back to class for me.

Happy Friday, everyone!

Busy workin’

I’ve been working a lot to bring home the big bucks (ha), which means less computer time. I managed to upload some photos to flickr this morning, so you can check those out.

I’ll have more details up when I get the chance.

free comics!

Happy Monday!

Busy, busy

I have a lot of things I want to write about. I also have a bunch of essays I need to read before tomorrow. Bleah.

A fun (if tiring!) weekend was had…both Ookla shows were lots of fun. My parents were in town for the Nietzsche’s show and got to see Rand in action for the first time. They seemed to enjoy it. They also liked Greg Klyma, which didn’t surprise me a bit!

Rand and I have stepped up our Netflix viewing, so I have several movies to report on…among them The Passion of the Christ, Stranger than Fiction, Let’s Go To Prison, ummm….I’m drawing a blank. But there have been a bunch in the past couple of weeks.

I wrote about this at Required Reading over the weekend, but I’ve joined a fun little site called goodreads. Check out my profile here and be my friend! 🙂

Big Ookla weekend

I know there were at least a couple of people who wanted to make it to the last show and couldn’t, so I just wanted to remind you about this weekend’s Ookla events. 🙂

The band will be in Rochester tonight at the California Brew Haus–the show is scheduled to start at 9.

Tomorrow, they’ll be playing an early set at Nietzsche’s along with Greg Klyma and Tom Bianchi. Show starts at 7 and should be over by 10, as Big Leg Emma is scheduled to take the back stage at 10.

Hope to see you there!

Weekend stuff

So over the weekend, Rand and I traveled to Ann Arbor, Michigan.

Why Ann Arbor? Well, Rand wanted to get away for his birthday, and Ann Arbor is a cool town, and I’d never been there. It’s not too bad of a drive (about five hours if you drive through Canada), and so it was off to Michigan for us.

Before heading out, we visited with Rand’s brother in Batavia for a bit. We had bagels, and juice, and ping pong, and pleasant conversation, and then we were on our way. Before we left, I snapped this photo of sad little daffodils covered in snow.

The drive wasn’t too bad, and we made decent time except for the last little bit of the trip. It started to snow hard enough to make it difficult to see. By the time we got to the hotel, I was a cranky Erin.

Happy birthday!

(Timestamp confused…this was posted Sunday evening.)

Yes, it’s a bit late in the day, but we’ve been traveling.

It’s Rand’s birthday today. Happy birthday, love! 🙂 If you’d like to leave birthday wishes here, I’ll be sure he gets them.

Ookla pimpage

Hey, I almost forgot…I told Rand I’d mention this on the blog today!

Ookla spent some time in the studio remixing and remastering their CD Less Than Art, which has been out-of-print for quite some time. It was quite worth the effort, because it sounds fantastic! You can hear a couple of the tracks on Ookla’s myspace page.

For more Ookla-related news, check randland. (gasp! he actually posted!)

Finally, for those of you who missed the February show, or for those who are dying for another, the guys have three (count ’em, three!) shows coming up in April.

On April 13, they’ll be at the California Brew Haus in Rochester. On the 14th, they’ll be at Nietzsche’s with Greg Klyma and Tom Bianchi (Greg and Tom are great musicians and all-around awesome guys. You can’t go wrong here!).

Then, on April 27, they’ll be back at Nietzsche’s. Details are at the myspace page, and I would guess on the Ookla website as well.

Returned

I’m back from FKO…and I’m pretty tired right now. Here are a couple of the photos I took with my phone on Friday.
