The return of Required Reading

So I decided to bring back my YA lit blog, Required Reading. I was prompted to do so because of my new blogfriend Jessica (aka miss_shortskirt). She is also a lover of the YA, so I  proposed that she join me in reviving the blog as a co-blogger, and she agreed. Woohoo!

So, anyone interested in YA can check us out over there. See ya!

Weird day

So I got up to go to work this morning, went to the room of the teacher I was supposed to be subbing for, and she was there. This doesn’t always indicate that the teacher is *there*, though–there are lots of situations where the teacher is actually in the building but not in the classroom. So I said, “Am I in for you today?” And she looked at me like I was high.

So back to the office I went…where there was another sub in the same situation. Some calling around confirmed that there were several teachers who were supposed to be at a conference today, but it was canceled, or the district decided not to send them, or something. Three of the subs were notified, but the two of us got lost in the shuffle.

They called around to see if anyone was short subs, and the answer was no. Bottom line? Because it was a district mistake, I get paid for half a day and I got to go home. I’ll take it. 😉

And so I went shopping…check the wedding blog later for some of the things I bought!

Random thoughts for a Wednesday

1. The Cinnamon Dolce Latte at Starbucks is no Pumpkin Spice, but it is an acceptable substitute. Plus, it comes in a sugar-free version that’s not at all bad.

2. I actually found Britney Spears genuinely funny on HIMYM this week.

3. I’m going out to eat at Taste of India shortly, and I am SO EXCITED. 🙂

4. There was something else that escaped my mind the moment I opened this post.

5. It was almost spring-ish here today. Hurrah for the sun!

6. Our wedding is in 108 days…rapidly approaching double-digit territory! (don’t forget to check my wedding blog for updates! y’know, if you’re into that sort of thing…)

7. My car hit 100,000 miles this weekend. I took a pic of the odometer, but I haven’t uploaded it yet.

And that’ll do it for me…Happy hump day, everyone!

Gown fitting!

I’ve posted a couple of photos in a protected post over at the wedding blog. Contact me if you want the password, either by commenting or emailing!

Monday, Monday

I sent a photo in to the “Blog” of “Unnecessary” Quotation Marks, and it’s been posted.

Also, my journals are still for sale at etsy! I’ll be posting a few new ones over the next couple of days.

(The glue isn’t really that visible on the actual journal. The flash picked it up…)

Oh, and wedding post soon to come! Happy Monday.

Happy Easter!

Hope you all have a lovely day. I’m off for PA to visit with the fam.

Curse you, Emma!

I’ve spent the better part of the afternoon looking at fountain pens on the internet. Here’s what I’m considering buying:

Waterman Phileas

Waterman Kultur

Pelikan Pelikano

Parker Vector

Hero 328

Duke Silver Filigree Ruby (I know nothing about this pen, but it’s a really good price, and it’s really nice looking!)

These range in price from the cheapest being $6.99 and the most expensive being $34. Anyone with any expertise in this area want to offer an opinion?

Happy Friday

Reasons why today is a happy day:

1. The SUN! Okay, so it’s still cold outside, but SUN!

2. Belgian waffles with raspberries and real whipped cream.

3. Good news from friends!

4. Packages from Amazon–Rand ordered Enchanted for me. Yay! I also ordered a couple of cheap disposable fountain pens that arrived today. (I’ve caught the fountain pen bug from Emma…I bought one at Office Max, but it’s a medium point pen, and I really prefer a fine point. I’m looking at a couple of other inexpensive options, but I need to do some more research on things like ink option, and cartridges vs. converters for bottled ink, etc.).

5. Having the day off.

🙂

Happy Easter to anyone who will be celebrating this weekend. I’ll be heading to PA for dinner on Sunday, spending the night, and going for my *first fitting* on Monday. Look for more details on that over at the wedding blog!

Scenes from my couch

Rand and I are watching The Daily Show, and the bit is about Barack Obama’s pastor. Cut to clips of various talking heads discussing the “scandal.” One of them says, “This is going to scare the white voters in Ohio and Missouri.”

Me: Snort. Scare the white voters.

Rand: If Jesus was his pastor, it would scare the white voters.

Me: *laughter*

Rand: An angry, hairy Jew screaming about the poor…

Me: *grab computer, post to blog*
