What’s wrong with my basil plant?

Yeah, I have lots of things to write about, but for now…can anyone tell me what’s wrong with this plant?

The leaves at the top of the plant appear to be green and healthy, but the leaves at the bottom are yellowish and pale.

Anyone know what’s going on/what I should do?

Ugh

Still too hot to write. Will probably be away from the computer for most of the weekend. Have a good one!

It’s too hot

And I’ve been away from my computer a lot, hence the light posting this week…

I had a nice afternoon with Jen and Samantha yesterday.

I got my car inspected, and of course, I didn’t get away without having anything done. I can’t remember the last time my car passed inspection. This time it was the brakes, and I got off fairly cheap. I do think I need an alignment, though, because my brake pads are wearing unevenly…

Other than that, I’ve been running around like a crazy person, between teaching and various appointments and meeting with friends and yoga class…and, uh, you get the picture.

Rand and I saw The Simpsons Movie, which was enjoyable. I didn’t go into it expecting anything earth-shattering. It was funny. I laughed. 😉 I can’t stop singing “Spider-Pig.” (no he can’t, ’cause he’s a pig…)

I went to the movie website (link above) and created this avatar:

Limited options, so it doesn’t really look all that much like me.

Anywhoo, hope you’re all managing to keep cool!

To days of inspiration

inspirationalblogger

Kelly at Byzantium Shores has bestowed upon me the honor of “inspirational blogger.” His blog inspires me greatly, and I need to acknowledge that before I go on to name my own inspirational bloggers. I love the way Kelly puts words together. He has made me laugh, made me cry, and made me think, and I’m very happy to know him.

And now…

I’ve mentioned her before, but Seanan McGuire never fails to inspire me. She’s a writer, musician, artist and all-around cool chick. She writes posts like this one, among other things.

Create a Connection is a sort of community of creative bloggers, created and hosted by Melba. I find a tremendous amount of inspiration there.

My dear friend Stephanie has a food blog, and I always find myself inspired by the incredible-looking treats she posts there!

Eden inspires me in different ways all the time, whether it’s by writing a fantastic novel that makes me cry, being one of the coolest, hippest moms on the planet, or just being brazenly, unabashedly herself.

And finally, Jen.  Jen puts her heart and soul into everything she does like no one I’ve ever known, and she puts it all out there for the world to see.

Now, go forth and inspire! Or be inspired! Or, y’know, some combination of the two…

I love my new camera!

I took it out for the first time over the weekend, and I’m very, very happy so far. I haven’t learned everything it can do yet, of course, but I’m having a blast.

Here’s the quick story as to why I got a birthday present when it’s not my birthday…

Many many months ago, my parents talked about getting a new camera. Mom wanted a “real” camera, not just a point-and-shoot. They told me they’d give me their old camera when they got the new one, and I said sure. I wanted to have one of my own, and it had some features that Rand’s camera doesn’t have.

For various reasons, the purchase of said new camera was put off. When I was at home last weekend, my dad gave me the old camera. It was a Gateway, purchased when they bought their computer. It needed a new battery, and it didn’t appear to be compatible with my iBook. I started looking into inexpensive memory card readers as an alternate option.

So the other day, I was talking to Rand about the various options (I had ordered something from Amazon and was sending it back because it wasn’t what I wanted), and he walked away and came back with a box

“Happy birthday,” he said.

I seem to have a knack for sucking the life out of my surprises… 😉

Anyway, the new camera is a Canon PowerShot SD1000 Digital Elph. I also got a case, a spare battery, and a larger memory card. It’s fantastic.

Friday roundup

Oh, my. So much to say…so little time.

  • I had a really excellent time at my reunion. If you haven’t seen them yet, the photos are here. I had some wine, danced, and talked to lots of people I haven’t talked to in a very long time. It was great to see Anita (looking very tall and glamorous, as usual), as I only get to see her once every 4-5 years. I wish the turnout had been better, as there are lots of people I would have liked to see but didn’t. Ah well. The food was decent, and the DJ was…well…what you’d expect. There was much hair metal.
  • I also attended a family reunion during the day, and then Rand and I headed back to Buffalo on Sunday. And then I desperately needed a nap…therefore, I did not get to start reading Harry Potter until Sunday evening! It was painful, but I survived. I still owe a proper review (which I will be posting at Required Reading), but for now, here’s a post I wrote on point of view at Daily Writing Tips (it references Harry Potter).
  • My summer class is going fine…it’s much larger than I expected it to be. (I have 21 students registered. I think a couple of them have dropped off…) Summer classes usually aren’t this big. I’m choosing to believe that word has gotten out that I’m fabulous. 😉
  • Eden is famous. She’s all over teh intarwebs, and she’s gonna be on TV. It’s all over the kerfluffle caused by this video.
  • I had lunch with Jen on Wednesday, which was good! We ate at Steel Crazy Cafe, which was not as good as we’d hoped…
  • I received some strange and nasty troll-ish comments on my flickr account. I deleted the comments and blocked the user(s), but apparently I should have waited for flickr to investigate first. Oops. My bad. (the backstory is something I don’t feel comfortable posting about, sorry.)
  • I got an early birthday present. 🙂 More details later…

Er, that’ll do for now, I guess…happy Friday!

An open letter

to whoever keeps leaving the front door to my apartment building propped open:

For the love of all that is holy, please stop it. Seriously. If you’re going to move things in and out or whatever, just shut it when you’re done. You’re letting bugs in. I know we all have our own individual doors and all, but you see, bugs can get through that little space under the door.

I don’t like it when there are bugs in my apartment. K?

Shut the door.

Thanks,

erin-go-blog!

Gift afghan

My grandma crochets, and she does beautiful work. When I saw her over the weekend,
she gave me this afghan:

afghan

It’s lovely, and I’m very happy to have it. But, um…when grandma gave it to me, she said, “I can’t be waiting around until you get married.”

Yes, folks…my grandma was afraid to wait to give me the afghan as a wedding gift, because she might be dead by then.

Sigh.

Thanks, grandma!

Feelin’ loved

This week, I’m finding myself feeling especially loved…first, my dear friend Stephanie wrote this lovely post that made me cry–in a good way, of course! (Warning…Stephanie’s blog hasn’t been playing nice with firefox for me. I don’t know if it’s just me, or if it’s a larger problem…)

And then, Kelly at Byzantium’s Shores tagged me as an “Inspirational Blogger.” I think this means I need to tag some inspirational bloggers of my own, which I will do. Later. Just add it to the list. 😉

I’m gonna go bask in the warm fuzzies now…
