BufBloPoFo #14–the end

Well, BufBloPoFo-08 comes to a close…can you believe it?

BufBloPoFo Topic for Day 14: Link to whatever you posted exactly one year ago (or whatever’s closest), and give your readers an update on that topic. If you haven’t been writing for a year, give us a list of three or four things that are going on in your life right now that you’ll want to update one year from now at the end of BufBloPoFo09.

Hrm. Well, what I blogged about one year ago today is hardly update-worthy. I reviewed Adam Selzer’s book How to Get Suspended and Influence People

A day earlier, I blogged about my weekend,  which involved watching movies, making brownies, and meeting with Jen and Samantha for our short-lived book club.

The next day, I blogged about discovering J. Wood’s Lost blog at Powell’s.

Two years ago, March 15 2006 (I didn’t post on the 14th), I mentioned having met my ex on the Ides of March.

And yeah, there are three or four things I might be blogging about next year. Like this, maybe.  😉

And hey, by the way, happy pi day!

Let me tell you about myself…

For the first day of BufBloPoFo, the topic assigned was “tell us about your blog.” I answered this question back in June at this post, but here’s an excerpt:

When did you begin your first blog and what inspired you to do so?

I started my first blog (titled rather boringly “erin’s blog”) in late 2002 or early 2003. I was inspired by my good friend Eden of So Anyway, who had sung the praises of blogging and first sent me the link to Blogger to help me get started.

My blog sat mostly empty for quite some time. I posted now and then throughout early 2003, and when I began student teaching in the fall of 2003, I started a second blog-my online student teaching journal. (I don’t think that one’s online at this point…)

The thing that really got me blogging regularly was The Breakup in the fall of 2003. My long-term BF rather abruptly called it quits, and I began blogging regularly both as a way of dealing with my feelings and letting my friends know what was going on in my life without having to tell the same stories over and over and over again.

When I started dating again, I blogged about my experiences to entertain people, and soon I had a small but loyal readership!

Unfortunately, the vast majority of those early posts were lost in the Tragic Blog Incident. (I accidentally deleted my database. Don’t ask…)

Since those early days, I’ve changed urls a couple of times (the first one I chose was too close to the email address I had at the time, and I thought that was a mistake, given the topics I was blogging about. ) and moved from Blogger to hosting my own blog using a WordPress format. I like it here. 😉

This is the first post in existence on my current blog, from March of 2004, almost four years ago. A few of my older posts (from Blogger) are still floating around the net somewhere, but most are gone forever. Eh, what are ya gonna do…

I do believe my first real post (January 2003) was about Super Bowl commercials.

Almost exactly a year ago, I completed a meme asking for 5 reasons why I blog. It took me a while to find that so I could link to it, but there it is!

And how did I choose my blog name? I dunno…it just amused me. 🙂

I maintain several other blogs (some of which are more active than others…you can find the links either on that first post I linked to above or on the “about me” page. Also, there’s my recently formed wedding blog, with the boring name “Erin’s Wedding Blog.” I’ll take suggestions for a new name. 😉 )

A new blog?

Why, yes.

I decided to start a wedding blog of my very own. Um, yesterday. Sometimes I feel self-conscious about the prospect of overwhelming people with wedding planning posts, and there are literally hundreds of random little things I want to write about…and so I thought I’d give them their own space. That way, anyone who wants to can follow me over there, and anyone who doesn’t can continue to enjoy my random (sometimes ;)) daily thoughts here.

Anyway, here it is:

Erin’s Wedding Blog (uh, it needs a catchier name, I think…)

Right now, everything there except for the most recent post is old stuff…I just copied most of my wedding-related posts from here.  OH! and I made my own header. It’s not perfect, but it’s my first attempt. 😉

In 2007, I…

Went to my grandpa’s 85th birthday party.

Mused about why I blog.

Saw my cousin rock Into the Woods.

Got in touch with an old friend.

Searched for a good substitute for Peter Pan Peanut Butter.

Mused about babies and fertility.

Celebrated 3 years with Rand and attended my high school reunion.

Celebrated the birthday to end all birthdays!

Lost a friend.

Completed NaBloPoMo.

Had a *fabulous* time at the World’s Largest Disco.

Read a bunch of stuff.

Of course, I did a bunch of other stuff, too. All in all, 2007 was pretty good to me. A toast, then, to more good things to come in 2008!

Blog potpourri

I owe a reading, watching, listening post, which I will get around to soon…but until then, here’s a few tidbits:

The new issue of Toasted Cheese is up. And I need to get the newsletter out!

NaBloPoMo is over, and I made it! Woohoo! Not nearly as impressive as finishing NaNoWriMo, no, but I’m still pleased.

Via Emma, I heard about National Photo Posting Month:

Thomas Brock has started NaPhotoPoMo – also known as National Photograph Posting Month. Thus far, it’s going to be in February, but that’s subject to change. The challenge is simple. Just take a picture and post it on your blog each and every day of the month.

I thought that sounded like too much fun to pass up, so I’m in. It’s open to anyone, so go on over and sign up!

And finally, I had a photo selected for Schmap!! Buffalo in the nightlife section. It’s a photo of Rand playing with Greg Klyma and Tom Bianchi at Nietzsche’s

let's talk about cher

I’m sure I’m forgetting a thing or two. Updates about the weekend (and photos!) to come.

Tuesday Tidbits

I’ve been updating lots of photos, so be sure to check them out. Tonight, I uploaded two photos of me in my new glasses:

new glasses 2

I’m disappointed that you can’t see how truly cool they are in the photo. The frames are brown, but they have a sort of lavender tinge to them. I am pleased. I got lectured by the optometrist, because it’s been way too long since I had my eyes checked.

This is not new, but I have a pterygium on my right eye. (Jen, you probably don’t want to click!) It’s small, and it is not interfering with my vision in any way, so I’m told that it’s nothing to worry about. You have to be pretty close to my eye to be able to see it. If it ever does become a problem, I can have it removed. (eep!)

I probably paid a bit too much for the glasses, because I let them talk me into upgrading the lenses to the anti-glare, scratch-resistant ones. I did not get contacts this time, but I’ll probably go back for them sometime before the wedding (I wear them very, very infrequently).

Anyway, let’s see what’s up around teh intarwebs…

Apparently, the Sweet Valley High books are being reissued. (via Pop Culture Junk Mail) Question is, do the publishers think kids are going to go for this? Or are they for us thirtysomethings who read them as tweens?

It took me a long time to realize this (uh, Jen had to point it out to me), but I was mentioned in jen14221’s last “Buffalo Blogs” column in the Spree. It’s not online, but I took some photos!

Also getting shout-outs were some of my favorite bloggers…Samantha, Mild Mannered Blogger, and Christine.

My

has begun its annual fundraising drive, which means, of course, address labels! I like the new labels–they have photographs of some campus landmarks, and they’re very cute.

(those are just stickers. The actual labels actually have my address…)

And my final tidbit…this past weekend has been “blast from the past” weekend! I got three friend requests/contacts on facebook. The first was from a guy I went to grade school with. He moved back to England with his family in middle school. Hi, Colin!

The others were from a couple of fellow Alleghenians…one was good friends with my ex, K. Hi, Mike! And Reid, well, I didn’t even expect him to remember who I was. Hi, Reid!

(Are you on facebook and not friends with me yet? Click here!)

NaBloPoMo

Starting next Thursday, November 1, I am pledging to post at least once per day as part of the NaBloPoMo challenge. (have you signed up? Friend me! I’m “eringoblog.”)

I mentioned that I wanted to come up with a regular posting schedule, and here’s what I’ve tentatively come up with:

Monday: Weekend Wrap-up (pretty self-explanatory)

Tuesday: Tuesday Tidbits (random things I’ve found interesting about the blogosphere)

Wednesday: Wedding Wednesday (wedding planning things, or my thoughts on this whole getting married process)

Thursday: Thursday Thoughts (whatever stupid things are on my mind that I feel like writing about that week)

Friday: Friday Photo (ideally, an interesting photo I’ve taken in the past week and the story that goes with it)

Saturday: Reading, Watching, Listening (my formerly semi-regular writeup of the media I’ve been enjoying. I’ve been wanting to get back to this…)

Sunday: Free-for-all. Might be a meme or quiz, or some random thing that didn’t fit into any other category.

Annoyance

So I was going to upload some photos I took over the weekend, and then some more I took tonight at a Big Brothers/Big Sisters event, but the internet is being dumb. It’s taking three times longer to do anything at all. Blergh.

Various and sundry

I am Miss Crabby-Pants today. Watch out…

*Last night, Samantha hosted a little get-together in honor of Rand and his promotion to the directorship of the D’Youville College library. Yay! Many good friends were in attendance (including Jen and Mark and Thomas), and some others couldn’t make it, but sent their congratulations. It was a lovely evening, filled with food, drink, and good conversation. I took a few (but not many) photos, which I will post later…

*On Friday, I got the *official* word (meaning I signed paperwork) that my long-term placement has been extended to the end of January. Woohoo! A little more $$, and a little more time to figure out what happens next…

*I decided that there is no bloody way my schedule would allow for NaNoWriMo this year, so I signed up for NaBloPoMo instead. (I’m “eringoblog”) I’m pledging to post every day in the month of November. I’m thinking I might give myself some sort of schedule or posting challenge to make it more interesting for myself.

*Eden‘s all famous again. Last week, she was interviewed for a story in the Washington Post. But that’s not all! On Monday, a crew for Good Morning America is coming to her house to interview her for a segment. oooooh…

I’m certain there was more, but I’m tired and cranky and I have grading to do. Later!

My poor blog…

It feels sad and neglected. I don’t blame it. 😉

Life is busy. Certainly not in a bad way, but in a way that leaves little time for leisurely internet activities such as blogging, answering e-mail, playing online Scrabble, and so on…

Anyway…school continues to be fine. Wedding plans creep steadily forward.  After the visit and some talking, it looks like Pearl Street is going to be the venue. I love the space. I love the banquet manager.  I know the food is good. We’re still working out some of the details, but we’re both happy with this option! Once things are a little more set, I’ll be posting one of those nifty little wedding websites with all the pertinent information.

In other news, my new yoga session started tonight! Yay! I so needed it.

I’m 100% positive that I have more things to say, but my brain is shutting down…more when I get the chance!
