So I was watching an episode of The Simpsons with Rand earlier today, and something (I don’t remember what) made me laugh out loud.
Rand said, “You laugh just like Mrs. Krabappel.”
I’m not sure how I should feel about that. 😉

I’m long overdue for one of these…
Reading: Last weekend, I finished Meg Cabot’s All American Girl. I continue to adore Meg Cabot. She writes fluff, yes, but she does it really, really well. I laughed out loud many times while reading this book.
I also finished the Sandman series. Overall, I liked it very much. There were some points where I thought the story sagged, where Gaiman wasn’t exactly sure what he was doing or where he was going. I liked the ending, but could have done without most of The Tempest. (not a bad idea, but it was a little boring.)
I started reading Swamp Thing. This isn’t something I would have ever thought about reading, but for Rand, but I’m really enjoying it. Alan Moore does horror really, really well. He knows that I need to connect with the characters and care what happens to them in order for the creepiness to be effective. (This is the same thing I like about Stephen King.)
I haven’t done much other reading in the past couple of weeks, as I’ve been getting into the swing of my classes.
Watching: Well, Heroes and Studio 60 came back this week. Hurrah!
Additionally, I’ve watched season 1 of the UK Office (which, okay, I do like…but I still think I like the US version better), season 1 of Extras (really, really funny), a bit of the first season of MASH (lord, how I hate Trapper John), and probably a whole bunch more that I’m forgetting.
Listening: I listened to the new Weird Al, which I got as a Christmas gift. Pancreas had me laughing out loud. Overall, it’s a little heavy on the hip-hop parodies, but they’re really funny. Hm…I can’t think of any other new things I’ve listened to recently. Tell me something I should be listening to. 🙂
When: Sunday, February 18, 7-10 PM
Where: Mohawk Place (Buffalo, NY)
How much: Free!!!
Why: A California film crew — headed up by Tom Hanks’ brother — will be filming the concert for a feature-length documentary. Come and be a part of Buffalo-music history.
From ain’t it cool news:
“Veronica Mars” returns with new episodes on Tuesday, but following February sweeps will disappear again for eight weeks, to be replaced by the reality series “Pussycat Dolls Present: The Search for the Next Doll.”
When “Mars” returns with its final five episodes, there apparently will be no final multiepisode story-arc to end its first season on the CW.
This does not bode well.
I’m not up-to-date yet–I just watched the season 3 opener–so I can’t speak as to whether season 3 is good or not. But ending the season with five stand-alone episodes? This show is all about the multiepisode story arc.
Oh, let me count the ways…
I’m a little more than halfway through season 2. A quick tally of the season 2 guest stars:
AND, in the episode I’m currently watching? Both Michael Cera (George Michael) and Alia Shawkat (Maeby).
Oh, and a possible sign that I’m watching too much Veronica Mars? Every time I see one of these (which is more often than one might think), I think to myself, “Hey! It’s Logan’s car!”
Note to self-
When watching a TV show that has already aired, step away from the internet and back slowly away.
Love,
me
I was innocently searching to see if there were any hidden features on the Veronica Mars DVDs I just got for Christmas.
I inadvertently got a glimpse of what would seem to be the big reveal at the end of season 2.
I don’t like being spoiled. I’m not psychotic about it or anything, but I really do try to avoid it. Especially with a show like VM where the mystery is a big part of the appeal. (not all of the appeal…it’s not like this makes season 2 worthless to me…but still.)
Wah.
So I just finished watching Season 1 of Veronica Mars. Holy CRAP.
I think those are the only words I have right now.
Holy crap.
I think I told someone privately that I haven’t felt this way about a show since the first two seasons of Alias. The last two episodes of the season were especially Alias-y. The last one even involved a wig. 😉
Okay. I need to go breathe now.
Just got the mail and there is NO DVD FROM NETFLIX.
Don’t they know how I *need* my Veronica Mars?
Erin is sad.
Since I was on the topic of Christmas music, I decided to link to this post at PopWatch:
What are my worst offenders? Hmm…I agree with some of the commenters. Christmas Shoes is at the top of the list.
I have to shout a big hearty YES to this one:
but what about “Happy Holidays” from Andy Williams? Some might say it’s a classic, but let me give you an example of the lyrics:
It’s the Holiday Season
So Whoop Dee Do
And Dickory Dock
Don’t forget
To hang up your sock
Ick, ick, ick.
And yes, Hey Santa by Wilson Phillips is pretty irritating.
I have to admit, I actually like Gloria Estefan’s wonderfully cheesy Love on Layaway. I can’t help it. 😉
And there are some songs that annoy just from sheer overplaying..um, Step Into Christmas, I’m looking at you. And The Christmas Song (Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire), which apparently everyone on the planet has recorded a version of.
What’s your least favorite Christmas tune?
Reading: Still working on Calvin and Hobbes. Finished a YA novel I pulled off of a teacher’s shelf last week called Tangerine. It was a fast and suspenseful read, and I thoroughly enjoyed it…although there were a few things that left me a little cold.
I’m still working on bringing my posts over from the book blog. I noticed that you can import from an RSS feed. Has anyone actually done this?
Soon I’ll have my “books read in 2006” post up. I’ll bet you can hardly wait. 😉
Watching: Ok, I’ve been busy here!
I finished disc 5 of Veronica Mars and anxiously await the final disc of Season 1! I’m dying to talk about this show, so if you’ve seen it, please email me or leave me a comment! That’s the biggest drawback to watching something after the rest of the world has already seen it…
Rand, John and I went to see Borat over the weekend. I thought it was funny, but not that funny.
And I finally watched Pirates of the Carribbean, which we had borrowed from Ron, um, way too long ago. I liked it, but found it a wee bit longer than I think it needed to be.
I thought last week’s episode of The Office was great. Plenty of laugh-out-loud moments.
And finally…Studio 60. It may have been a bit of a bumpy ride getting there, but good Lord, was the Christmas episode amazing. It was everything that is good about Aaron Sorkin. I was weeping and cheering by the end of the episode. I’ll be on this ride for as long as NBC will let me. 🙂
OH! And I nearly forgot…we got the first disc of SNL: Season 1 from Netflix. Interesting. The second episode might as well have been called Paul Simon and friends Live. 😉 I don’t get the Muppets. We’ve seen the first three episodes, and so far, I have to say John Belushi’s performance as Joe Cocker is the shining moment. I was practically rolling on the floor by the end. 😉
Listening: I’m going to take this opportunity to pimp what may just be my favorite Christmas album:
It’s not a traditional “Christmas”…with the exception of Silent Night, all of the tracks are original songs. But they are amazing songs. “First Snow of the Year” is ridiculously catchy. “Three Generations” is a happy and yet wistful tune…the line “three generations are only together for so long” never fails to bring a tear…and the love songs–Merry Christmas (I Love You) and A House or Maybe a Boat are my favorites–are sweet and achingly romantic.
Check it out. You won’t be sorry. 🙂
